Lucy & Leo's

After a long, busy day, I decided to treat myself to something sweet! So immediately I head to one of my favorite sweet spots in town, Lucy & Leo's Cupcakery.  Located in Tallahassee, FL, right in the heart of midtown, this place is sure to bite every time!

Every day they bake a variety of cupcakes to choose from in order to fill your sweet tooth!  I believe the key to great cupcakes are beautiful on the outside, and moist and sweet on the inside; and Lucy & Leo's Cupcakery have definitely mastered this concept! Some of my favorites are Red Velvet, Strawberry Shortcake Surprise, and Carrot Cake. And...even on Fridays, they serve up some "Happy Hour" cupcakes with a surprise in them. Oh, and how could I forget...they have previously been on the TV show "Cupcake Wars," which says a lot! So, if you have a sweet craving to fill, stop by Lucy & Leo's Cupcakery on Thomasville Road today!  And don't forget to let me know....does it bite or not?

MASA

One of my favorite bites in town is MASA! If you've never been, what an experience is waiting on you.  Beautifully decorated, with a calm and relaxing atmosphere, the ambiance is as if you have escaped from Tallahassee altogether.
Asian meets fusion as they serve Asian-inspired seafood, fresh sushi, and other great entrees. Aside from their amazing sushi, I love to drop in during lunch for their Express Platter. This includes an entree, fried rice, noodles, a spring roll, and an appetizer of the day...all for only $8! On my last visit I had the Beef and Broccoli with Garlic Pepper Sauce...and boy did it bite! So if you're in the mood for some great food and something different than the norm, give MASA a try! Located on N. Monroe St. in Tallahassee, you will not be disappointed. And don't forget to let me know....does it bite or not?

Divine Grace

Hello everyone! I know it's been a while since I've written but I'm back and ready to fill you in on some great bites. While I was away from "blogland" I found a new bite called Divine Grace. Upon entering the restaurant, an aroma of wonderful homestyle cooking hit my nose. As I approached the counter, my mouth began to water as I saw an abundance of food. First, there were the meats to choose from...fried chicken, baked chicken, ox tails, salisbury steak, and even chitterlings. And then came the sides... macaroni & cheese, dirty rice, white rice, mashed potatoes & gravy, white acre peas, collard greens, green beans, black-eyed peas, and to top it off, flapjack cornbread. It was like Thanksgiving in April! So now it was decision time, and after a few minutes, I chose ox tails, dirty rice, collard greens, and white acre peas. My, my, my...what a bite!  If you want some soul food like Grandma used to cook, then this is the place to go. Oh, I forgot to mention how reasonable the prices are; you get 2 meats, a starch, 2 vegetables, bread, drink, and dessert all for only $9.65 (the ox tails do have an up charge).  So give Divine Grace a try, located on Tennessee St. in Tallahassee, and let me know does it bite or not.

Champions Chicken & Waffles

Over the weekend I finally had a chance to try Champions Chicken & Waffles, and it was definitely worth the visit!  Finding the restaurant was a little tricky because it sits in a strip plaza behind Hancock Bank; however, now that I’ve found it, I will be returning for another bite.  While its name may suggest only chicken and waffles, there are definitely a plethora of other menu items to choose from such as macaroni and cheese, collard greens, yams, desserts, and they even offer a selection of breakfast entrees.  After perusing the menu, I chose “Kason's Pick” which was three whole fried chicken wings and a waffle… and boy did it bite! The waffle had a burst of cinnamon and other flavors making it different from a typical waffle and it was served with warm syrup and warm, melted butter.  Now onto the chicken wings…my favorite part of the meal! They were fried to perfection, crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside!  And for those of you who have never tried chicken and waffles together, the flavorful, seasoned wings mixed with the sweet waffle are a combination your taste buds won’t ever forget.  So try Champions Chicken & Waffles on Polk Dr. (off of S. Monroe St.) in Tallahassee and let me know…does it bite or not? ($ - under $10) P.S., they have an all you can eat buffet on Sundays from 11:30am – 4:00pm for only $12.95.

The Great American Sandwich Station

Had a chance to visit The Great American Sandwich Station today! As I approached the sandwich trailer, I didn't quite know what to expect. But then I was greeted by the owner, Kenny, who was very welcoming. After a brief conversation, I will tell you he seems to really love what he does and is committed to serving good, quality food and pleasing his customers. So now it's decision making time of what to bite and with such a wide variety on the menu, I lean on Kenny for advice.
At first, I strongly considered the Mushroom Swiss Burger, but after Kenny's verbal presentation of the BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger, I was sold! This burger is 1/3 pound of Black Angus beef, topped with bacon, two ounces of barbecue pulled pork, cheese, and all the other fixins. (and he only uses fresh Romaine lettuce) After the first bite, I immediately thought how in the world can such a tasty burger come from a restaurant on wheels! This burger was one of the best I've had in a long time. It was fresh, juicy, and very well seasoned. The blending of the pulled pork and bacon, along with the beef, created a savory medley in my mouth! Also, it was so humongous that I had to share because there was no way I could finish it! Hats off to Kenny for a burger well done and I can't wait to return to try another bite! So everyone try The Great American Sandwich Station in Midway, FL and let me know...does it bite or not? P.S. You can find the trailer in the Donut Kingdom parking lot on W. Tennessee St. on Thursday nights and in the Baja's parking lot on W. Pensacola St. on Friday nights (both in Tallahassee) ($-under $10)

Jasmine Cafe

Jasmine Cafe & LoungeHello again. I just had a flashback of a Sunday afternoon I spent at Jasmine Cafe that I had to share with you! This restau-rant has been in downtown Tallahassee for years and its consistency has not changed. Every time I frequent this quaint, little spot with casual décor, I am always pleasantly satisfied.  Known for its sushi, it has to be some of the freshest and cheapest in town.  However, there are many other items to choose from on the menu such as excellent appetizers, salads, sandwiches, noodles and even vegetarian dishes. During a recent visit, I chose the Thai Peanut Stir Fry. What an experience! The merging together of the spices with the cilantro and peanuts brought the chicken and vegetables to life!  The entire dish was inundated in an awesome peanut sauce, and when mixed with the steamed rice, it was the perfect balance to each bite.  So if you’re in the mood for sushi or some other unique bite, stop by Jasmine Cafe on College Avenue in Tallahassee!  Then let me know…does it bite or not? Wings Bite

Since wings are one of my favorite bites, I’m always trying to find a great wing spot. After hearing about wangs wings, I decided to give them a try. Upon entering the small restaurant filled with Asian décor and high-top tables, wonderful aromas of spices began to hit my nose. I scanned the menu and quickly realized this is not your typical wing joint. To my surprise it’s full of many Asian-themed wing flavors such as “Sweet Thai Chili”, “Ginger Seoul”, and six other mouth-watering flavors to choose from. Not sure what to bite, I tell the server it’s my first visit. What does he offer? “Shanghai Buffalo!!!” He was right on, as the wings filled my mouth with a blended medley of spices with a nice kick!! Once I dipped them in their Firecracker Ranch, there was a definite explosion in my mouth! The wings were crispy on the outside, juicy and tender on the inside; and they were just the right size. So if you want some good wings, with an Asian kick in the mouth, try wangs wings on Pensacola Street in Tallahassee! Let me know…does it bite or not? ($ - under $10)
